GovHack NZ – Innovating with Government Data

GovHack is all about bringing together coders, artists, storytellers, observers, communicators and more, from the private, public, NGO and academic sectors.

While the group of people is diverse, we’re united in a single purpose – coming together in a weekend-long hackathon and working with government data to innovate and create.

What is GovHack, anyway? It’s not about “cracking” government – it’s about bringing together the power of open data and all of us to build a better democracy and a more open government and society. Watch this short video to find out more 🙂

GovHack 2016 will be taking place in Christchurch:

Our theme for this event is “A Smart and Healthy City” and there will be local prizes, bounties and fun for our participants!

How does it all work?
We have $10k worth of local prizes and bounties to win and great food and fun across the weekend. Spend your weekend innovating with national and local open data to win prestige and prizes!

Local bounties and prizes
We have a number of awesome local bounties to win with data. Prizes are being supplied by:

Venue details
Access: The Christchurch City Council is wheelchair- accessible and has accessible amenities.

Facilities on site: WiFi, working spaces, kitchen, power sockets, toilets, sickbay.

Security: There will be security guards stationed around the open areas throughout the weekend, however please take care of your personal belongings and don’t leave them unattended. Neither Christchurch City Council nor GovHack accept any responsibility for any personal items lost or damaged over the weekend.

Registration on Friday 29: Registration check in opens at 6pm, with the competition starting at 7pm.

Food: We will be providing main meals over the weekend.

Friday – nibbles (drinks will be for sale, including alcoholic beverages)
Saturday – lunch and dinner
Sunday – lunch and afternoon tea and drinks.
There will also be a range of snacks over the weekend. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options will be available, as well as water, tea and coffee.

Hours: Our venue will be open during the hours below. Between those hours you are welcome to work elsewhere, but we encourage you to get some rest.

Friday: 6pm – 9pm
Saturday: 8.30am – 8pm
Sunday: 8.30am – 6.00pm
